Mid-Course Correction Or Lemmings Off The Cliff?

Written by PeacockWatch on January 21, 2010.

With the historic event of a Republican winning a Senate seat that has been in Democratic hands for the past 60 years, the pundits are now saying that perhaps the Democrats have miss-interrupted their equally historic election mandate last year, and have moved too far to the left.  Peacock thinks otherwise.
President Obama’s historic election in 2008 was set up by a perfect storm of events.  The electorate was exhausted with eight years of President Bush, and the war “of election” that the Democrats had wrapped around his neck.  Then there was Bush’s historic spending and the double-digit growth of government during his administration.  If this were not enough, the Conservatives were also saddled with a poor candidate who was viewed as more of a liberal than a true conservative.   The real breaking point came a mere two months before the election with the meltdown of Wall Street and the accompanying collapse of the American economy.
Although Peacock recognized the candidate as a left wing ideologue well before the election, Peacock also knows very many otherwise bright people who voted for President Obama because they felt he would perforce have to govern from the center.  After all, it is no secret the United States of America is slightly right of center in its political leanings.
Therefore, if the political leanings of the country are well known as slightly right of center, how could the democrats miss-construe their “mandate” and lurch so violently to an extreme left-wing ideology?
Peacock believes that the answer to this riddle is that it was the extreme left wing of the Democratic party that got President Obama elected, and that the plan all along was to ram as much radical thinking into law as possible.  This is the reason why every Administration initiative had to be done yesterday, and why time was of the essence.  Further, Peacock feels that the plan never assumed that President would be re-elected, but the damage would already have been done and very hard to turn back.
If President Obama, like President Clinton did after the mid-term elections of 1992, begins to legitimately move to the center (remember, watch what he does, not what he says), than perhaps Peacock will have been wrong about President Obama’s  true mission.
However, if he ignores the obvious warnings of the elections and staggering drop in public opinion polls since taking office, and continues to push his left wing agenda at the expense of his party, Peacock can only say, “game on!”

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, as the saying goes, must have rolled over in his grave last night as the Massachusetts voters delivered a stinging repudiation to Obama’s socialist agenda. The  White House tried to spin the defeat as the result of a poorly run Coakly campaign, but the only people stupid enough to believe the lies are the ones who are telling them.  Following his talking points prepared by the White House, Barney Frank said, “Martha Coakley was a lousy candidate. She let herself get involved in a personality debate.”

Despite the spin, the message could not be clearer: The democrats lost a long held senate seat in one of their deepest blue states by 52-47, a small sample of what’s going to happen to them in the 2010 election cycle.  Some are now estimating that the dems may end up with as few as 50 senate seats when the dust clears in November.

Despite the voters’ mushroom cloud now hanging over Massachusetts,  Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are still secretly plotting how they can foist their unholy and unwanted health care package on the American people.

The End of the 1776 Republic

Written by PeacockWatch on January 10, 2010.

PeacockWatch believes that, one way or the other, we are in the last few years of the American Republic of our founding fathers.

the-signing-of-the-declaration-of-independenceThe progressives under the determined leadership of President Obama and his gang of mostly Marxist czars are doggedly pursuing socialism. Liberals, who aren’t necessarily progressives or Marxists, are following the leadership of the Democratic Party toward socialism. This includes:

• the takeover of the banking and automobile industries,
• the control of the health industry which is 1/6th of the American economy,
• wage control of certain industries,
• environmental reforms which will create economic havoc guaranteed to give the government additional excuses to take over industries sure to fail because of resultant energy cost increases.

Conservatives under what amounts to no central point of leadership at all are not fighting like they should to preserve, protect and defend the basic values of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America. There is not a concerted deafening roar of indignation at the loss of individual liberties being suffered as a result of these federal government actions. There is no outrage over the collusion between the executive and legislative branches of government. There is no calling out of the judicial branch for overstepping of its authority by creating rather than enforcing law. No conservative legislator is pointing out with sufficient voice and indignation the abuse of the fourth estate; the ownership of the fourth estate by conglomerates entangled financially and incestuously with elected government officials getting rich on the relationship.

We may have only two official political parties in the United States. But, in reality, we have at least four broad divisions of political opinion. However, the two political parties that are in charge don’t want to give up their stranglehold on the political structure. Giving up this stranglehold would decrease their power over the American public and provide too much opportunity for more diverse opinions.

It is clear that there has long been a shadow political party in place for at least 70 years; perhaps as long as 100 years. This is the Progressive Party that has adherents in both the Republican and Democratic ranks. This Progressive Party is really an American Socialist Party and should come out of the shadows, clearly publish their political platform and openly and publicly state their beliefs. President Obama, Hilary Clinton, Bill Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and several others are leaders of this Progressive or American Socialist Party.

teapartyspittsburgh-600x399A newer party is in the process of forming. Its popular name is the Tea Party and its members are essentially believers in Jeffersonian Democracy and the principals of our founding fathers. It is perhaps too early to say what form or name this “Tea Party” group will take on but it is clear that there is significant coherence in their beliefs. Perhaps more coherence than there is within either the Democratic or Republican Parties but not necessarily the Progressives.

The 100 year old Progressive Movement is tired of taking its time to bring Socialism and redistribution of wealth to the United States and the world. It has upped the ante and under the Obama administration has greatly accelerated its efforts. Through closed door negotiations and high stakes deals it is pushing its agenda through at a record pace. The formation of the Tea Party is part of the response to that acceleration and secrecy.

The effect is that the Progressive Party’s stirring of our American melting pot is more like the results of using a centrifuge to separate a solution into its constituent parts. Our nation is fractionalizing under the effects of that centrifuge and it is going to take a massive leadership effort to turn us into a single team again.

Liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans have lost their way. In the process we the people will lose our American Republic if we don’t take control of our government in 2010.

We have reached a tipping point where one of perhaps four things is almost sure to happen.

One is that there will be a violent revolution which all but a few whackos don’t want. The violent revolution will only take place if the government continues to act in secrecy and with hubris like it is in charge of the Republic instead of serving the Republic – the Republic being the American people who are the bosses of the government. Read the tea leaves. Why are Americans buying weapons at an unheard of rate? Why aren’t ammunition sales keeping up with demand? It is because Americans have become afraid of their government. And it isn’t in our melting pot, freedom loving character to stay afraid of our government for long. It is in our genes.

The second of the three things is that Americans will buckle under to Socialism which is what the progressives are pushing for. The Marxist progressives are counting on us, like the conservatives in the legislature, to be sheep and quietly move with them toward Socialism. The Obama-led Socialists have every reason to believe this will happen because we have been gradually letting it happen for at least 70 years. They are now accelerating that effort intending to complete the transition within this Presidential administration filled with declared Marxists.

The third of the three things is that the conservatives will finally rally around a leader and find the guts to express their indignation loudly and coherently. They will point out what the polls and the American people are really saying and demand that we get back to the principles of our founding fathers.

And perhaps there is a fourth path. This path is a peaceful, but forceful revolution of the American people. This path is to require a Constitutional Convention resulting in a non-violent dismissal of all elected members of our present government. The Constitutional Convention would turn our upside-down government right side up. It would, as required by our original Constitution, put the people in charge of the government instead of the government in charge of the people. It would result in the recall of everyone in our federal government and eventually the recall in everyone in governments at all levels. The dictatorial liberals and the weak kneed conservatives would all have to go home and find a way to make an honest living in the commercial sector they were either trying to destroy or failing to defend.

Our federal government may be destroying our Republic as created by our founding fathers and as defined by our Constitution. A total recall of all elected officials and a demand for a Constitutional Convention may be the only peaceful way to save our Republic.

PeacockWatch believes that this fourth path may be the only one our failing leaders are leaving available to us. The corruption in our government is too endemic in the system to be expunged. The disdain for the opinion of the citizen may be too inbred in our government leaders. It could be that any well-meaning “Mr. Smith” going to Washington doesn’t have a chance any more of surviving without kowtowing to the party leadership rather than listening to and obeying their constituents. The allure to our elected officials of the benefits of collusion with big money from lobbyists may be so corrupting that it is irresistible. There aren’t many poor Senators and Representatives.

We have sufficient infrastructure now in our nation to permit the formation of something closer to a true Democracy than was available in the days of our founding fathers. Americans, if they choose to do so, can directly make their voices heard on issues concerning individual bills. Bills can be written that are short and required to be devoid of any pork barrel additions. Favors of any kind from lobbyists can be made illegal. The tax code, by instituting a Fair Tax at the federal, state and local level can be made one page long and the IRS eliminated. Spending bills can be required to be published in draft and final form on the Internet as they are formulated. Government income and expense can be published just as they are in any corporate enterprise; they can be published daily on the Internet with running tallies by line item. Deficit spending can be outlawed. Fair tax levels and budget limits can be set by popular vote. No more hidden taxes of any kind. It can be made illegal for Congress to set their own salaries. It can be required, except for discussions of national security, that C-Span be present at all meetings conducted by the Congress and that they can be present at any other federal meeting that they want to attend.

To avoid chaos, it is probably necessary to permit members of Congress to continue to vote in the manner they believe is right rather than in accordance with the wishes of their constituents. However, their vote should be immediately published on the Internet and made public as soon as the vote is cast. Naturally, having C-Span available during any committee meetings or office huddles will make the reasons for the vote clear to all.

We are either headed toward Socialism or the recovery of our Republic and it will happen very, very soon. Perhaps in 2010.

The Obama administration and the Progressives in Congress are trying to take us toward Socialism as fast as they can and they are assuming the citizens will not oppose them because the citizens either agree or are sheep. The Conservatives are too fragmented, too weak kneed, too beholden to lobbyists or the prestige of their position to do what is necessary to properly represent the American public. Consequently, if the American public continues to act the way it has for a century we are in all probability moving from being a Republic to a Socialist state which will become increasingly Socialist as the decade and the century progress.

A Constitutional Convention and the creation of a new Republic may the only option we have available to preserve what our founding fathers fought for.

MSNBC – Truth and Opinion

Written by PeacockWatch on December 12, 2009.

The British politician, Edmund Burke is quoted in Thomas Carlyle’s book “Heros and Hero Worship in History” as follows. “Burke said that there were three Estates in Parliament, but in the Reporters Gallery yonder, there sat a fourth Estate more important far than they all.”

Edmund Burke would be aghast at the power and influence of the fourth estate today. Political columns are written within hours after an event has taken place and then transmitted across continents and even around the world. Within just a few more hours they are printed, distributed, read and accepted either as gospel or biased opinion. Television and radio report information to hundreds of millions, perhaps a couple of billion, as it takes place. Commentators add their own spin within minutes and add improbable elements to that spin as the story is analyzed and dissected among themselves and with “experts” until it becomes as worn as a months old newspaper passed among greedy readers.

It is indeed true today that the fourth estate is far more important than our government. The media has more power than ever before to get people elected or removed permanently from public service. Interestingly enough, media today is generally owned by massive conglomerates with elements that might be dependent upon elected officials for income from government contracts. Our government officials and the media consequently operate in total complicity to assure the health of their mutual interests. In this incestuous relationship the fourth estate has become more important, more powerful, totally complicit with and integrated with the government. It influences legislation much more than it did in Burke’s day. That influence is clearly for reasons much less pure today than they were in the 1700’s.

PeacockWatch is especially concerned about the objectives and intentions of MSNBC. In a recent article PeacockWatch took MSNBC’s Chris Matthews to task when he said of Obama’s speech at West Point “he went to maybe the enemy camp tonight”. On November 30th, 2009 we have Keith Olbermann saying in an MSNBC article on Afghanistan that “the Pentagon is a bunch of perpetually 12-year old boys”. Matthews later offered an apology for his statement. However, that apology was thrown into disbelief by the context of his overall comments. His apology falls into the category of total fantasy given his associate Keith Olbermann’s insult to our military defenders.

The dislike these two men have for the military becomes easy to understand when one remembers that it is the military men and women who have fought so hard against socialism and Marxism in the last few major wars. And socialism and Marxism are what MSNBC is supporting so strongly today when they champion the present administration and its group of czars. If our military is strong, and continues to be the most respected of all government agencies, then socialism and Marxism will have a more difficult time in the rest of the world and not have the full support in the U.S. that Obama and his spokespeople at MSNBC desire.

Just as part of the agenda of MSNBC is to denigrate our highly respected and heroic military it is also focused on supporting the public option health plan (See PeacockWatch article “NBC’s Support for ‘Public Option’ at an All Time High”) which is the cornerstone of the move toward socialism in the U.S. and “The Big Lie of Global Warming” which is a supporting strategy.

It has been reported, though only very minimally on MSNBC, that the health care program means a takeover by the government of another 1/6th of the U.S. economy which would be the dream of any avowed socialist. It was also recently reported by the NY Times and CBS (with great publicity from MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann) that support for the health care public option according to a December 4th through 8th poll is now at 59% with only 29% opposed. On the contrary, a Bloomberg poll during the same period, and not mentioned at all by MSNBC, shows that 62% of Americans are mostly pessimistic about the benefit of a health care bill that Congress would pass. A Quinnipiac University poll as reported by the Washington Times shows 52% of voters oppose and 38% support the current Congressional health care reform bill. There are many other polls with varying results but MSNBC consistently reports only on those that support the current administration for which they are the primary media outlet and from which their parent organization receives great financial favor.

Edmund Burke was right about the importance of the “fourth Estate”. One wonders how corrupt the media was in the mid-1700’s and if elements of it were as strongly influenced by a particular party as MSNBC so clearly is today. Whatever the answer, it is clear that MSNBC and its commentators Olbermann and Matthews have it as key objectives to denigrate our military through subtle and not so subtle opinion commentary and to report only that information supporting the take over of health care by the federal government. Those two key MSNBC objectives support one overarching Obama administration goal of transforming the United States of America into a socialist empire as quickly as possible.
