Swimming In The Tank With Obama

Written by PeacockWatch on October 27, 2009.

MSNBC is so much in the tank with the Democratic Party that they are indistinguishable from each other. Clear evidence is presented in this video infomercial for the health care public option sponsored by the White House and the Democratic Party.

After watching this, PeacockWatch is compelled to ask how MSNBC can be allowed to retain its license as a news agency. How can Keith Olbermann be regarded as anything but the spokesperson for the Democratic Party and the health care public option?

If you watched the first 30 seconds of this video, that could have been written by Harry Reid, you saw Olbermann setting the stage for eight minutes and seventeen seconds of blatant support for Harry Reid and the public option. No reporting. Just an eight minute seventeen second commercial that MSNBC provided for free to the Democratic Party.

Throughout the video, which is mostly a pat on the back for, and a love fest with, Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer, Olbermann doesn’t even try to contain his enthusiasm for the Democratic Party and the public option.

In the last 15 seconds Olbermann and Schumer are actually congratulating each other for the around the corner success of the public option. Schumer says to Olbermann “there will probably be some twists in the road that you and I don’t anticipate”. Olbermann responds, “Well, to the degree that congratulations are in order, my congratulations to you, Senator Schumer of New York.”

This is reporting? We have seen paid political advertising that is less biased.

It is interesting that on the same MSNBC web site page there is a video condemning Fox News. That MSNBC video starts out with “If you are a journalist you are supposed to have a healthy adversarial relationship with the people and institutions that you cover.”

PeacockWatch agrees. We suspect that Fox News agrees. MSNBC, by their own definition, is not a news organization and is absolutely hypocritical.  Thank you MSNBC for helping us make our point.

Bleeding Heart Stupidity

Written by PeacockWatch on October 25, 2009.

The source of our present economic recession is clear to all if we ignore the stories presented by the spin merchants. The reasons offered vary by political party, economic interest, and emotional persuasion. But the root of our present economic crisis is simply this. Incredibly misguided people who had absolutely no understanding of the financial world wanted to make sure that even those who couldn’t afford to buy a house could have one. In the middle of a financial housing bubble banks were forced by our government, and intimidated by ACORN and other organizations, to make loans that the banks were almost sure couldn’t be repaid. Both political parties participated in the coercion. Many on Wall Street could see the inevitable result. They began a series of convoluted trading schemes guaranteed to make them rich when adjustable rate loans made homes unaffordable. All of this took place on top of a housing bubble that everyone recognized and most knew would eventually break. So, loans weren’t repaid, homes went into foreclosure, the housing bubble burst, many people went broke, a few got rich and Wall Street collapsed in sympathetic response and as part of the inevitable economic cascade.

The people who were supposed to be helped were badly hurt financially and the country, indeed the world, was left of the verge of economic collapse.

Note that this is the fault of both political parties and Wall Street. Note that few in Washington took blame and most pointed their finger at everyone else.

But where was MSNBC in the midst of all of this? It was ignoring ACORN until the “non-news” Fox news channel forced the action of ACORN to center stage on the American consciousness. It was single-mindedly supporting Obama’s White House and the Democratic Party as the savior of the economy through their action of  pouring hundreds of billions into commercial institutions and assuming control of them. This was the same type of control that drove our financial housing market to ruin. MSNBC was spending so much time trashing the Republican Party and Fox News that it apparently had no time to act as a proper Fourth Estate. Meanwhile, Fox News was taking everyone to task. Glenn Beck, taking no prisoners, pointed at both political parties and Wall Street as participants in our economic collapse. Almost every Fox news program interviewed people with opposing views in an attempt to understand, and report on, what was really happening in Washington, on Wall Street and in ACORN. And MSNBC simply continued to be the political arm of the White House.

Now MSNBC continues to act as the chief political supporter of the White House and the Democratic Party as they pursue a course of action that brings more tax revenue (power) to Washington under the guise of providing help to those who can’t afford health insurance.

Did Washington learn nothing from the housing loan fiasco?

We have a complex economic system that, like any complex system, contains many “feedback loops” to create some semblance of stability. Mess with those feedback loops and the system begins to oscillate. That is exactly what happened with the real estate market and it is exactly what will happen with the health industry if we don’t take our time. But Washington has gained so much wealth over the centuries that it now has the power to move quickly to disrupt the system with new economic schemes. With each disruption Washington claims that it has to take more control to correct the problem, which is always blames on someone else.

Thank God for Fox News which keeps pointing this out to the utter dismay of the White House. Shame on MSNBC for ignoring the obvious problem while currying favor with Obama as he implements socialism and wealth redistribution through new methods of taxation.

Capitalism has made us the greatest country in this world. People are clamoring enter America to take part in our great enterprise. We have many wealthy people in America who started out poor or whose parents and grandparents started out poor. We are regarded as the freest country on the planet and as a land of great opportunity. Anyone who understands what is really happening here knows that the country was built on dreams, ambition and hard work. In some cases dreams, ambition and hard work fail and may end up in tragedy. That isn’t fair but it is a reflection of the real world we live in. For the most part these things work in America and the people who achieve the greatest success are able to make more jobs so others may succeed.

But the current administration is filled with socialists, Marxists and some Fascists who believe that hard earned wealth must be redistributed, that capitalism is evil, and that those in government must closely control what happens in the country. While Fox News brings this to the light of day MSNBC acts as the strident spokespeople for those working to undermine what we have built for over 200 years.

Washington interfered with the housing financial system and initiated a series of events that led to a disaster. Do we trust Washington to mess with our health system? Do we trust a news bureau so in bed with the current administration that it can’t see clearly what is happening?

MSNBC Fears Free Enterprise

Written by PeacockWatch on October 25, 2009.

The following is taken from http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/bill_of_rights.html.

During the debates on the adoption of the Constitution, its opponents repeatedly charged that the Constitution as drafted would open the way to tyranny by the central government. Fresh in their minds was the memory of the British violation of civil rights before and during the Revolution. They demanded a “bill of rights” that would spell out the immunities of individual citizens. Several state conventions in their formal ratification of the Constitution asked for such amendments; others ratified the Constitution with the understanding that the amendments would be offered.

In our various editorials PeacockWatch has expressed our concern about what amounts to a new tyranny. This new tyranny is best expressed in the attack by the new administration and its czars on capitalism, democracy, the constitution and specifically the first two amendments under the bill of rights to our constitution. One of these attack occurred in just the last few days when the administration tried diligently to ban Fox News from participation in White House pool interview. Thankfully, all of the media banned together to stop this move which may not have been a violation of the First Amendment but was certainly in violation of the spirit of the First Amendment. Hail to the press for this one-time victory.

Interestingly enough, the reason given for banning Fox News from this pool interview is the declaration by the White House that Fox News is not a news organization because of their supposed support for and bias toward the Republican Party. Keith Olbermann couldn’t wait to jump on, or is it continue to be the driver of, this White House bandwagon. Mr. Olbermann and MSNBC feel that they now have the golden opportunity to declare themselves number one in cable news because the White House has declared Fox News to not be a news organization. On their web site MSNBC states “With Fox News exposed as a political advocacy organization and not a news channel, that leaves msnbc as the #1 most watched news channel on cable”. This article on the MSNBC web site will lead the reader to the following video link. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/vp/33389812/ns/msnbc_tv-countdown_with_keith_olbermann#33389812

The Pew Research Center is generally regarded as an excellent and objective polling group. Perhaps MSNBC should look at the results of the latest Pew studies regarding MSNBC. If it is fair to declare Fox News to be a political advocacy organization for the Republican Party then it might be even more fair to declare MSNBC an arm of the White House staff.

MSNBC needs to go back to the principles on which this country was founded. MSNBC seems to spend a lot of its time fighting with Fox News while at the same time acting as a full time supporter of the Obama White House. Perhaps MSNBC should reflect on the following quote from Thomas Jefferson rather than joining with the increasingly closed White House to declare Fox News not to be a news organization.

“The only security of all is in a free press. The force of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary to keep the waters pure.”

Who is it that is more afraid of Fox News? MSNBC or the White House. Or are the two indistinguishable from each other? Or perhaps MSNBC is simply afraid of , and stridently against, the same thing the White House is afraid of. Open competition in a free enterprise system.
