Keith Olbermann led off his November 17th show with the statment, “As the waiting continues for the Senate health care reform bill to be introduced for debate, more evidence tonight—in our fifth story on the COUNTDOWN—that a clear majority of Americans are waiting for real reform, that means a public option.”
However, the Pew Research Center in one one of their most recent polls on the subject finds “the public now divided over the health care proposals in Congress, with 42% in favor and 39% opposed”. PeacockWatch doesn’t agree, and we suspect that you don’t agree either, that 42% is a majority. Even more interesting is that Pew Research finds that ”Fully 85% say that ‘too much government involvement in health care’ is a major reason for their opposition”. In another recent report Pew finds that “Independents who have heard a lot about the bills oppose them by a 70% to 27% margin”.
Let’s look at a survey by the Gallup Poll. Every November Gallup asks if it was the government’s role to ensure universal healthcare. In 2006 about 69% of the population said “yes”, in 2007 the number dropped to 64%, in 2008 it was 54% and this month it was 50%. Is 50% a clear majority Mr. Olbermann? In a follow-up question Gallup asked respondents if they would prefer a new government-run healthcare program or the current system. 61% wanted to maintain the status quo, while only 32% wanted change.
GovCentral in their analysis of of this latest Gallup poll found that “The Environmental Protection Agency, Internal Revenue Service, and Health and Human Services Department were among those ranked lowest in customer satisfaction, which could be attributed to various factors, including their public availability, accuracy of information, or ability to deliver on promises. Those surveyed ranked HHS, along with the Social Security Administration, as having the most impact on their personal lives.”
Pew finds that “By a slim margin, the public trusts private insurance companies more than the government when it comes to deciding what kinds of medical procedures should be covered by health insurance (38% vs. 32%). Nearly one-in-five (19%) say they trust neither”.
According to a hot off the press Rasmussen poll “66% of U.S. voters believe free market competition between private insurance companies will do more than government regulation to reduce the cost of health care.”
So, Mr. Olbermann, the truth is that less than half of the public supports the health care proposals in Congress and the public trusts private insurance companies more than they trust the government. This is fully contrary to your statement “that a clear majority of Americans are waiting for real reform, that means a public option.” Furthermore, the public trusts the arms of the government least that are the watchdogs over our health and wealth! What is the source of Olbermann’s research? How did he arrive at his facts? Perhaps a better question is, what is Olbermann’s agenda here? It certainly isn’t accurate reporting of facts! Once again, for the umpteenth time, it seems really to be about MSNBC providing a spokesperson for the progressive arm of the Democratic party.
According to Pew, 74% of the population believes that the media reports are often strongly influenced by powerful people and organizations. (Hmmm. Olbermann works for MSNBC. MSNBC is owned by GE. GE has huge amounts of government contracts.)
In view of these reports do we trust what MSNBC and Keith Olbermann have to say? Do we trust the government to run a health care system? Clearly the answer is a resounding “NO”!
In fact, the United States Congress seemingly doesn’t even trust its own health care to the public option! They are exempting themselves from the public option and keeping the great health care choices that they have been reserving to themselves and, by law which they designed and passed, deliberately denying to the public for over half a century.
The White House, the Congress, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, all the progressives, Keith Olbermann and the GE-owned MSNBC will continue to state over and over again “that a clear majority of Americans are waiting for real reform, that means a public option”. They will repeat this false mantra many times each day in the belief that it will eventually come to be accepted as the truth. The White House and the Congress will continue to ram this legislation through as quickly as possible in the hope of making it become law before it is even more fully understood and opposed.
If they are successful in their goal then the public will have even less reason to trust the government. At some point our government has to stop lying about “what the public wants”. At some point MSNBC has to stop supporting that lie through distortion of the truth. At some point the citizens of our free country have to get rid of the liars by turning out to vote in such massively record numbers that the next election, and all elections, will reflect the will of the majority. We have to define ourselves so clearly by our vote that no media organization can distort what we are saying. Our opinions have to stop showing up only in the opinion polls. They must be defined at the voting polls by the entire voting public of this great country. Instead of letting ourselves be defined by the liars, we must define ourselves by clogging the highways and voting locations by turning out in such massive numbers to define the truth by our vote that we bring everything to a standstill for an entire day. We must turn out in such massive numbers that the polls all across the country will have to remain open far past closing time. We need to make the government afraid of the citizen rather than the citizen being afraid of the government. When that happens truth and democracy will prevail and trust between the citizen and the government will be restored.
It is about trust, Stupid!

Deeply despise keith olbermann. For the record, glen beck does not spew racism. keith olbermann does. Glenn Beck speaks of communism and marxism, because of Obama’s Policies. Plain and simple.
